This live online workshop is aimed at teachers who are new to teaching English A: Language and Literature for the IB Diploma Programme. The guiding questions for this workshop include:
- How should we put this course together, considering the reading requirements, 7 concepts, 3 areas of exploration, 5 fields of inquiry and 4 assessment components?
- How can we prepare students for their exams and assessment components?
The workshop leader, Brad Philpot, is the author of English A: Language and Literature and English B (both with Cambridge University Press). He is an experienced workshop leader and examiner.The workshop consists of 4 x 90 minutes of instruction, discussion and break-out activities. Sessions are held on 16-18-23-25 September 2025 from 16:00 to 17:30 Central European Time.
The number of participants is limited to 20 participants, who will be able to engage with each other and the content through Google Meet and this website. Recordings of each session and downloadable content will be made available to participants who cannot attend in person.
The workshop fee is € 500 (excl. VAT if applicable).
Participants will receive a digital Philpot Education certificate afterwards. This workshop is independently organised and therefore not endorsed by the IB. Register here

At Higher Level, students write a 1,200- to 1,500-word essay (HLE). How do we guide students, as they decide on a work and a line of inquiry? Can they write more than one essay? What is the teacher's role? This session answers these questions and concludes with a discussion on course planning and outlines.
