The following unit of inquiry introduces you to the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty. You are asked to identify the key stylistic features of film and cinematography. You will analyse commercials from this non-literary body of work (BOW) and create an outline for an individual oral. This worksheet should take about 12 lessons of 50 minutes to complete.

The IO, like all forms of assessment, measures your thinking skills. What kind of thinking are we looking for in a good IO? Read the 'model analysis' poster below. See how the student makes connections between the global issue and the director's choices? That's critical thinking in the Language and Literature classroom!

Assessment

Commercials from a campaign make for an excellent non-literary BOW because you can easily take screenshots from one commercial as an extract and find 3-4 'satellite' texts (other commercials) to reference in the IO. These worksheets help you prepare any oral on moving image effectively.
