The IB states that good teaching is informed by assessment. What's the difference between a 6 and a 7 response? This student response is a 6. This model response is a 7. Can you spot the difference? Before you can write level-7 responses, you have to study many models.

Assessment

Is this text a website, opinion piece or memo? It's an opinion piece, published on a website in the disguise of a memo. Would the IB ever set such an exam text? In fact this stimulus text is an old exam text! As you consider text type, consider that text types are rarely clearly defined. Nor are you expected to use simplistic labels, such as 'advertisement'. Instead, you may need terms like 'print ad', 'infomercial' or 'advertorial'. Focus on purpose, audience and context as you aim to define the type of stimulus text.
