The language of comparative analysis
Paper 2, like all forms of assessment for this course, requires a certain use of language. Criterion D assesses you on your ability to use the English language appropriately and effectively. But what does this look like in practice. The following phrases, words and sentence structures will help you use the language of comparative analysis for Paper 2.
Words that illustrate
For example / for instance...

This is evidenced through the author's use of...
Words that analyse
Through the use of... the author makes the reader feel...
... which suggests / implies that...
...has a... effect on the reader.

Assessment
Notice how the above-mentioned phrases can help you on Criteria A: Interpretation and understanding and Criterion B: Analysis and evaluation for all assessment components. If you do not have the language (Criterion D) to express sophisticated ideas, you cannot earn marks for them.
