IO Coherence, focus and balance
Is there a magic formula for scoring well on the IO? See this page on Organising the IO. Both methods help you find a balance between the works. But how do you analyse both the extracts and the works from which they're taken in a balanced way? This video digs deeper into Method 1 from Organising the IO and helps you 'zig-zag' between your passage and work. This method is especially good for analysing poetry, photographs or political cartoons. Watch the video and download the worksheet below. Apply what you've learned to your own IO extracts and works.
Worksheet: IO Coherence, focus and balance with P EE EE L
ATLs
A good IO is informed by best practice. Check out the top scoring orals in the IO Samples section. Many of them zig-zag between the extract and work nicely, using the P EE EE L method presented here. If Method 1 (Organising the IO) seems to score higher marks, why not try it?
