Carol Ann Duffy (P1)
The following unit of inquiry introduces you to Paper 1, poetry and Carol Ann Duffy. This unit is intended for Grade 10 students (pre-IBDP) who may go on to study IBDP Language and Literature or Literature (where Paper 1 may be about an unseen poem). This unit comes after the Thomas L. Friedman (P1) unit. This unit should take about 16 lessons of 50 minutes to complete.
ATLs
This unit encourages students to use AI (ChatGPT) after outlining their own analysis of a poem. Critical thinking and thinking skills in general are integral skills in the IB which may be informed by AI but should not be replaced by AI. This unit asks students to scaffold their own thinking before consulting (critically!) with 'the bot'.
Assessment
This unit ends with a mock Paper 1. In principle, if students have received feedback on analytical writing in preparation for a mock, then feedback on a mock exam needn't be detailed. It's recommended to distinguish between formative and summative assessment during the learning journey.
