    Erfahrungsbericht/Testimonials

During the last two weeks I had the opportunity to attend a workshop related to teaching German B in the IB program that was led by the wonderful Conny Brock. Conny is an experienced IB language A and B teacher and I can only recommend her workshop. The workshop is designed for all German B teachers and is valuable for experienced and inexperienced teachers. After this workshop I feel more confident to continue my good practices and implement new strategies and help my students reach their full potential. - Ilda, Latvia

  • Session 1

    Overview:

In this session, we’ll unpack the Paper 1 assessment criteria and examine what success looks like across the different markbands. We’ll look closely at how to guide students through interpreting prompts, planning their writing, and selecting the appropriate text type. Special attention will be paid to features of key text types—such as blogs, letters, articles, and speeches—and how to teach them effectively.

The session will also explore scaffolding techniques to help students organize ideas, use register appropriately, and develop coherent, well-structured responses. Participants will leave with clear, classroom-ready strategies to support diverse learners in preparing for Paper 1.

  • Session 2

    Overview:

This session focuses on practical application. We will revisit key text types with examples of real student work such as social media postings and emails, applying the assessment criteria to evaluate Paper 1 samples from an examiner’s perspective. Participants will collaboratively mark and discuss responses, gaining insight into what examiners look for and how to provide meaningful, targeted feedback to students.

We’ll also consider common challenges in student writing and explore techniques to build stronger skills in content development, text type conventions, and language accuracy. By the end of the session, teachers will feel more confident in both preparing students and assessing their work effectively.
