Re: Visual stimuli for oral
Hi Rachel,
The description of the task says you give one image to the student.
Then further down in the guide it gives a combination of prompts that you can have.
I asked IB about this inconsistency.
The person in charge of exam management mentioned that students should be given one image.
But since the guide is contradictory... inconsistent..they wouldn't comment negatively if students are given 2 prompts to choose from.
So its ok to give two prompts and the student chooses one.
To answer your question.. these proposals of combinations etc are put in place to ensure academic integrity. No risk of students sharing information about which image they got.
Just try to give combinations that would make it impossible for students to know or predict which image they will get.
During Covid period, there was a compromise. You could give students up to 5 images.
This is not the case anymore.
What your colleague is doing with 5 images facedown etc is not recommended. Orals stimuli are not determined by lucky draw. This is not part of instructions.
There was a document on MyIB - Foires aux questions - that stipulated only one image is to be given(see screenshot).
You can give either one or two for the student to choose from(that seems fair).
